As for your pieces, it is really cool. If it was my piece I would figure out what the focal point is and put more detail there. The face, the chest and the top of the staff seem to be the most likely candidates. I would do first read, face, second read staff and third read chest cavity. As well as find a way to put some visual interest in the left side of the painting to balance all the stuff going on in the right side. I like the blurring/smoky effect but I think it needs to be balanced by a few areas that are pretty detailed. This allows the eye to know where to rest. Just my two cents.
